Madam, - Pieter van Veltzen (August 26th) suggests that off-road vehicles should live up to their name and stay off the road. In fairness, many of their drivers are already doing so, and parking their cars on pavements, on cycle tracks, in parks, on grass margins, etc.
The fact that it's illegal and anti-social doesn't seem to bother anyone, and this is perhaps why such practices are endemic among motorists.
SUVs and their drivers may see themselves as the vanguard of progress, but some may regard them as the mudguard of a thoughtless sub-culture. - Yours, etc.,
