BRENDAN KEARNEY,
Sir, - The hype and surprise expressed in the media and by official authorities about the rapid uptake of the euro and cashing in of Irish money is an insult to the intelligence of the Irish people. It was simple and made sense to hand in our Irish money when shopping, and to get rid of it as soon as possible in the interests of convenience and efficiency. Let's not make a mountain out of a molehill. - Yours, etc.,
BRENDAN KEARNEY,

... ... * ... * ... * ... ...
Sir, - A circular from the West Link Toll Plaza reads as follows: "Please note that the West Link car toll rate of €1.30 is not the euro conversion of the existing £1 toll rate. It is the toll rate agreed with the National Roads Authority in December 1999."
Based upon the average daily toll income of £80,000 per day, this disgraceful example of rounding up indicates an extra income of over €800,000 a year - well over half-a-million pounds!
A thundering disgrace. - Yours, etc.,
PATRICK RYALL,

Athy,
Co Kildare.
