LYNDA HENDLEY,
Sir, - Frank Neenan suggested (January 3rd) that the Office of Public Works was using the currency change as an opportunity to increase admission charges to Dublin Castle. This is incorrect.
There are three categories of admission charge for the guided tour of the State Apartments in Dublin Castle. These are standard adult, student/seniors and children.
The rates set on January 1st 2001 were £3.15, £2.40 and £1.20. Since January 1st, 2002 the rates that apply are €4.00 (£3.15), €3.00 (£2.36) and €1.50 (£1.18). Far from rounding up, the Office of Public Works has converted one rate to its exact euro equivalent, and the other two have been reduced.
Dublin Castle is open to the public from Monday to Friday, 10.00-17.00, and Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays 14.00-17.00. - Yours, etc.,
LYNDA HENDLEY,
Press Officer,
Office of Public Works,
Dublin 2.
