A chara, - Mr Tom Kitt (tells us that any rogue traders caught trying to pass off unjustified price hikes under the cover of the euro changeover will have their euro window-stickers taken off them (The Irish Times, November 23rd). That should frighten them.
The voluntary code for traders is not enough. There must be legal sanctions to give consumers some real protection against being ripped off.
It is the Minister's job to protect shoppers. So why isn't he doing it with effective sanctions? People who rob shops are charged with theft; shopkeepers who rob their customers should face the same penalties. - Is mise,
