Tackling the housing crisis

Sir, – The current handwringing by our politicians and public servants as the housing crisis worsens is a fine example of hypocrisy. They are the very people who accentuated the problem, particularly in Dublin, by banning bedsits, banning high-rise apartment developments and discriminating against landlords to the point where private investment in rental property is totally unattractive compared to the European norm.

It’s time to abandon the ideological blinkers and focus on addressing the pressing need to put conditions in place that will ensure private investment is attracted to rental property. – Yours, etc,

TED MOONEY,
