Sir, - It is to be hoped that last week's articles and Editorial in The Irish Times will enhance the wake-up call to the authorities responsible for traffic. The lack of vision and initiative in catering for the increased motor traffic in Dublin in the past decade is an embarrassment.
As an occasional visitor to Dublin, may I make a plea on behalf of rural folk and tourists for vastly improved sign-posting? Is it too much to expect that on the main arteries at least, the non-Dublin resident is clearly informed whether he/she is in Rathmines or Rathfarnham, Dundrum or Donnybrook, Finglas or Phibsboro? One of the few helpful compass aids the visitor occasionally encounters is the arrow accompanying signs for An Lar.
Likewise, the visitor to Dublin would probably find it helpful to have signs on major roads giving advance notice of important coming cross-streets - for example, when proceeding south along Drumcondra Road, to be forewarned of the junction with , Griffith Avenue. - Yours, etc.
