Taking a leaf out of literary legacy

Madam, – Tourist numbers are down again, in excess of 910,000

Madam, – Tourist numbers are down again, in excess of 910,000. Might I suggest to Brian Cowen that in a reshuffle of his dunces he appoint a new Minister for Tourism with a special interest in Ireland’s remarkable literary heritage?

Recently I visited the childhood home of our greatest playwright, the Shaw Birthplace on Upper Synge Street.

The message on George Bernard Shaw’s front gate was unambiguous. Closed. Will open between June and August 2009. Seeing as our exports have also gone into decline, perhaps we could resurrect a few past ones. Shaw, Wilde and Joyce would be a very good start. – Yours, etc,
