Sir, – In a capitalist society, entrepreneurs are the basis of the financial fabric in that they employ people and this pays the taxes with which the country is run. All very basic.
These people are to be valued, so when they lose their business, they should be able to rely on the State to keep them alive till they start a new venture.
In Ireland, if they go bust, we treat them like pariahs, although looking after the workers (and State employees especially), we allow them nothing at all.
The Government, rather than wailing about the domestic economy collapsing, as it is steadily doing, should get off its backside and encourage this dwindling band.
If they fail, we will just become a nation of employees at the whim of foreign companies. – Yours, etc,
