Madam, - In opposing Government policy over issues such as the Fisheries Bill and café-bars, certain Fianna Fáil TDs seem to have found themselves in a bit of a fix.
Their response has been to organise petitions and private consultations with relevant Ministers, but they may also wish to know that they are entitled to vote against any legislation that comes before the Dáil.
This procedure, an aspect of the rather strange concept known as "parliamentary democracy", is actually provided for in Bunreacht na hÉireann - the Constitution of the State - which is available from the Government Publications Office on Molesworth Street, just a short walk from Leinster House. - Yours, etc,
GARRETH McDAID, Drumleague, Co Leitrim.
