Madam, - The report in last Saturday's edition that, after months of coaxing by the Late Late Show production team, Mary Harney ultimately agreed to only "limited" audience participation following her planned interview really made me laugh. Having devoted herself for eight years to creating a Thomas Hobbesian sink-or-swim purgatory in this country, without any proportionate democratic warrant, it seems as if the Tánaiste is unable to bear the heat of questioning by the citizens of our new Eddie Hobbsian democracy.
Perhaps she should shop around for a new electorate. - Yours, etc,
Hugo Brady Brown, Stratford on Slaney, Co Wicklow.
Madam, - Mary Harney's decision to duck out of the Late Late Show and the unsuccessful efforts of her handlers to control the issues this raised are clear evidence that what she is intending to do with our health service is not in the common interest. RTÉ is acting impeccably in the common interest as it endeavours to place before the public the facts of our current predicament. We are fortunate indeed that Mary Harney will not be able to duck the electorate in the near future. Roll on polling day, there's a health service to rescue. - Yours, etc,
JIM O'SULLIVAN, Rathedmond, Sligo.
