Sir, - I note with much anticipation the opening of the platform extension to Tara Street train station, as illustrated in your picture on page 16 of June 5th. I am delighted, being one of the 21,000 that use the station, with the news that the facility can now cater for an additional 7,000 people.
However, would you be so good as to inquire of the three individuals pictured, Maurice Ahern, Lord Mayor of Dublin, Joe Meagher, MD of Iarnrod Eireann, and John Lynch, chairman of CIE, why it is that this extension, that includes additional emergency exits, has been left idle for the last three years since it was completed. Would it have anything to do with staff being unprepared to operate on additional exit points, or was it simply that they were waiting for the next train to pass? With this sort of project time-keeping, I'm looking forward to enjoying a journey on Luas, sometime around 2015! - Yours, etc.,
Dave McCarthy, Sutton, Dublin 13.
