Sir, - It is interesting to note that public ire is directed via the newspapers at the banks and not at the poor misguided fools who were dragged kicking and screaming into tax avoidance schemes. The thousands of nameless transgressors are not being held to account (for their accounts), as it is easy to blame the faceless institution at this time.

This ignores the cause of the underlying problem, that of historically high personal taxation in Ireland which encouraged people to indulge in a system of scams and schemes to avoid paying it.
