Sir, – The news that the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement is not to to investigate Mick Wallace TD (Business, August 28th) is a dark day for accountable politics. It now must fall to the Revenue Commissioners to hold Mr Wallace accountable for his huge VAT evasion, particularly as so many good businesses (which want to be compliant) are currently being crushed by a ruthless tax system in a situation where the taxes on small and medium businesses, the type of businesses that actually employ most of the people in our country, are far too high at a time of economic recession.
It is also up to the Houses of the Oireachtas to finally make an effort to re-establish the integrity of politics by stripping Mr Wallace of his Dáil seat. – Yours, etc,
