Sir, – I fail to see why it is not an enormous national scandal and an international embarrassment that in Ireland we have 37 bankers paid more than €500,000 per annum. This is over €130,000 more than the heads of the Bank of England, the IMF, the European Central Bank and the World Bank, and €340,000 more than the chairman of the US Federal Reserve.

Readers will know that the Irish banks in question are all effectively bankrupt, and that the Irish taxpayer is providing these wages. – Yours, etc,
