Teachers' Pay Claim

Sir, - Cllr Finian McGrath (October 11th) says that "the national wage bill is well behind profits"

Sir, - Cllr Finian McGrath (October 11th) says that "the national wage bill is well behind profits". I am unclear what he means by the national wage bill, but I assume he refers only to the public-sector wage bill. In any event, why should the national wage bill change in line with profits? If profits fall, should teachers be paid less?

Is Cllr McGrath proposing that teachers' pay be linked to performance - of private Irish companies? - Yours, etc.,
