Sir, - In response to Paddy Healy, (November 20th), I would like to know if the teachers will accept a cut in their salaries if and when the economy goes into recession. I would suggest that the teaching profession forfeit their four months'-plus annual holidays, their job security and their pensions and subject themselves to the constant risk of unemployment or bankruptcy as well as the scrutiny of their employer - or even better, their clients.
Then, and only then, will the long-suffering private sector take their claims seriously. - Yours, etc.,
David Swift, Brussels, Belgium
