Sir, - Protesting teachers are all too quick to point out that the Taoiseach is willing to consider trying to help U2 get permission to play another concert at Slane. They appear to forget that U2 - unlike teachers, a very popular group - are not and never were party to the PPF; should the Taoiseach deal with U2 he is unlikely to be inundated with knock-on claims from the Corrs or JJ72.
The ASTI should stop torturing second-level students and their parents, realise that the State is not in a position to negotiate with them because non-striking colleagues are satisfied with the benchmarking process, accept that they have made a serious misjudgment and get back to normal work sooner rather than later. - Yours, etc.,
David Meredith, Tallaght, Dublin 24.
