A chara, - TnaG has taken undue criticism in the last week. Interest in the Irish language is not confined to the borderline rural areas along the west coast and speakers outside it need the television link of TnaG just as much. The channel therefore must cater for both the local and the national. The mistake too long made has been to focus on the image of the language as a rural, small-community affair, alienating those outside Gaeltachts who sought to speak or use it. For the first time TnaG has shown it to be a language of youth, modernity and European status as well as a Gaeltacht one.

TnaG is excellent, innovative and vibrant and has managed on slim resources to move Irish from the 19th century to the 21st. Sadly, some do not appreciate the leap.
