Sir, - Kevin Myers's tribute to "real men" and manliness is to be welcomed (September 21st). The spontaneous heroism of the passengers who overpowered the hijackers and saved countless lives on the ground will be a source of pride to their families for ever.
Please include at the same time, and honour, the female values which make societies and the female values which keep societies together while the males are off at work or at war. Women who bear children, feed them, nurture them, guide them in daily li fe, protect them. Women who question the sanity of all these global power games, and who keep economics going, make homes safe and stable, and build communities for the men to return to, work-weary and battle-fatigued.
This too is glorious work. They are not invisible and their value must be seen, too.
In particular let us honour all women who have this gigantic job to do now, without the help and support of their brave men who died so tragically. they must not be forgotten in the lonely days to come. They too, are heroes in the making. - Yours, etc .,
