Madam - I am desolated to inform you that your grasp of this "text speak" is quite woeful, as clearly shown by your editorial (April 28th). However, the point you were making was appreciated. As a teenager at the heart of the debate, I have an eminently practical solution - new legislation to prevent mobile phone companies charging by length, or at least increasing the current 160 characters limit per message so that teenagers like myself, who are not exactly awash with funds, would be able to leave our English unmutilated.
To prove my point, I include a text-speak version of this letter, to show just how much space, and thus money, is saved by text speak: Mdm - u dnt no hw 2 txt speek no1 sez in10tion bt @ leest u tryd i tink dt fon cmpnys shudnt b alowd mak u pay mor if ur txts r 2 lng its nt fer n maks us hv 2 ct out ltrs cz us teens r brok - Yrs, or rather, Yours, etc,
