Madam, - Frequently criticisms appear in the southern media about the health services in the Republic. May I recount a recent, and more positive, personal experience?
My wife developed a serious brain-related condition while our family was on holiday in Ardara, Co Donegal, in July.
All I have to report is that the emergency physician (Dr Turner), the ambulance service (from Killybegs), and the high- dependency unit (at Letterkenny Hospital, where she was initially brought) all exhibited the highest standards of professionalism and kindness - for which the family is extremely thankful.
I am happy to report that Fiona is making a steady recovery after major surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast (to which we are equally indebted). - Yours, etc,
TERRY MORAHAN, Rugby Road, Belfast 7.
