Sir, - Medb Ruane's column (October 26th) "Abortion Bill act of a bully state" cannot be allowed to stand without comment.
This caricature, based on a composite of individuals in her support of abortion, speaks volumes for the pro-abortion mentality.
As her unfortunate victim, Medb puts forward this vulnerable, self-mutilating, potentially suicidal, mother of two, a former drug user, with hepatitis C, who engages in casual sex, now pregnant, who may contemplate going on the game, and desperately in need of an abortion.
Other than abortion, there is no suggestion whatsoever of an alternative solution. No composite characters here to offer proper direction, or loving counselling, or care. No offers of support or proper advice. No suggestions that may avoid a repeat of this poor woman's dilemma.
Instead, a cute solicitor and an uncaring doctor, both self-serving and cowardly, are put forward as her sympathisers, as the only ones with a remedy. Without apologies to either profession, Medb, through them, offers the answer, abortion. That cold and hapless solution to this pseudo liberal problem.
God forbid that reasoning such as this should ever frame our laws. - Yours, etc.,
John Skelly, Castleknock, Dublin 15.
