Sir, - Deja vu, Mr Turner! When, about twenty years ago Dr Cruise O'Brien cited the broadcasting of the Angelus on RTE as sectarian, he was answered in your columns by a Church of Ireland clergyman from Kerry - by the name, I think, of Stack.
The clergyman informed the learned doctor that the Angelus prayer was in the New Testament and could not be a bone of contention between Christians. I thought that was the end of the matter until I saw Martyn Turner's cartoon.
I am told by Islamic friends that Our Blessed Lady is honoured by their faith. So who, other than Martyn Turner and Dr O'Brien, are threatened, or offended, by the Angelus?
As it happens, I enjoy the BBC World Service's signature tune Lillibulero. It doesn't appear to be under attack even from John Birt, despite his education by the Irish Christian Brothers. - Yours, etc.,
Palmers Green,
