Sir, - I am a director of VHI. In that capacity, I have a personal duty to discharge which I take, seriously hence my letter.
Given the communication problems between semi state companies and the Minister's Office and the Minister himself, I would very politely like to inform the Minister that if the BUPA cash plans are allowed to proceed as planned, he will in due course have on his hands a social and financial nightmare, arising from the crippling of VHI and the unloading of a huge population of people over 50 years of age on the State health system. I will explain personally the reasons why, if he will let me.
Without wishing to be alarmist and with the greatest respect, I invite the Minister to think the matter through. I know he is bloody busy, but I don't want to hear the mantra "I didn't know" being chanted when the damage is done. - Yours, etc.,

Rathmines,
