Sir, - Kieran Furey writes that he agrees with me on "the magnitude of the challenge to literature from the electronic media" (January 16th). I am a little baffled by this since, unless I expressed myself very badly, I cannot remember making any such claim. Technology, so it seems to me, is of its nature neutral in cultural fields; its effect, surely, depends almost entirely on who uses it, and how. - Yours, etc.
