Sir, - I am well aware that it is not part of an ambassador's brief to interfere in matters concerning the country where he is a guest. My comments, therefore, are purely personal. During the years 1950-1958 I was a pupil of the Irish Christian Brothers in the Istituto Marcantonio Colonna in Rome and I cherish the memories of those happy years, probably also because I was in my early youth.

I am certain that it was at the desks of the "Marcantonio Colonna" and on its playing fields that my interest and affection for Ireland was born. My life has since provided the opportunity to develop and confirm these sentiments. - Yours, etc.,

Ferdinando Zezza

Italian Ambassador, Dublin.
