Madam, - Kevin Myers asks for no homilies, please, on social justice from our religious (otherwise known to him as "a handful of dog-collared or wimpled OAPs of almost no importance in modern Ireland"), because of the scandalous behaviour of some of their members (An Irishman's Diary, September 3rd).

By his own criterion Mr Myers would repudiate financial advice from bankers, security advice from the gardaí, legislative advice from TDs or even racing advice from jockeys!

How fortunate for him, then, that all those providing him with essential life-sustaining services seem to be paragons of virtue. - Yours, etc.,
