Sir, – The emphasis in every interview with the Olympic medal-winning O’Donovan brothers was to encourage excellence and to hope that their wonderful performance would inspire future young Irish rowers. With these truly Olympian principals in mind, it is timely to recognise the extraordinary commitment of coaches and volunteers to the Community Games, currently on at the Athlone Institute of Education.
My own children will return from the games this weekend, with some silverware, but more importantly with a sense of teamwork, hard work, friendship, independence and pride in self and community.
I simply wish to say thank you to all involved at both a local and a national level. The importance of this movement should not be underemphasised. – Yours, etc,
IVAN RUSK,
