Sir - In response to the escalation of violence against women on our streets and the continuation of violence against women in the home, Women's Aid are organising a Reclaim the Night march in Dublin on Thursday, February 8th, and are urging groups around the country to organise a similar event in their own area.

We are organising this march to provide women with an opportunity to come together to express their anger and frustration with the levels of violence against women both within the private and public sphere. Two women have been killed within the last month and there are still four women missing and unaccounted for. There have also been numerous violent sexual assaults and rapes of women on the streets of Dublin and continuous violent and sexual assaults against women in the home.

The debate in the media has been about how women can keep themselves safe. Women's Aid believe that the question that needs to be addressed is how can male violence be stopped?

We are urging all women to join with us in reclaiming their right to go wherever they want, whenever they want, free from fear of violence and ask them to join us at the GPO at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 8th, to Reclaim the Night! If a group are organising a march in their own area we would ask them to liaise with Women's Aid about this. - Yours, etc.,
