Madam, - Having regard to the continued proliferation of ragwort in many parts of the country along the highways and byways and in many fields, is it not time that Ireland dumped the Shamrock as a national symbol in favour of this more colourful noxious weed? Furthermore, local authorities all over the country could readily exploit the change in their promotions.

Slogans such as: "South County Dublin - the Noxious Weed County", or "Welcome to Kildare - Ragwort County" would have a colourful ring to them. - Yours, etc,
