Sir, - From reports of the Dail Committee's DIRT inquiry, it is illuminating to hear all the talk from eminent civil servants who held the significant title, Chairman of the Revenue Commissioners.
Officials like myself, who served in Revenue a few decades ago, will recall an anecdote which was probably based on reality about a specific chairman. This rather remote individual was quoted as stating laconically regarding reluctant communication with another officer who held a less exalted rank: "I should not even be talking to you." - Yours, etc.,
Tony Quinn, Dalkey, Co Dublin.
