The doors on the bus

Madam, – In line with other cities such as London, why does Dublin Bus not operate the centre doors of buses?

Madam, – In line with other cities such as London, why does Dublin Bus not operate the centre doors of buses?

Not doing so results in a situation where, at peak times, passengers alighting from upstairs or the rear of the bus are struggling to squeeze past passengers already standing on the bus in order to exit. It also delays new passengers from getting on the bus.

In most European cities, passengers get on at the front of the bus and alight through centre or rear doors.

Passengers on a Luas carriage do not enter and exit through the same door, although a tram carriage holds a similar number of passengers to a bus.

There is no extra cost involved to Dublin Bus in operating centre doors. This would significantly improve passenger safety and comfort, as well as minimising delays at bus-stops during peak hours. – Yours, etc,
