Sir, - I wish to express my disappointment and that of my family at the decision by RTE to axe Glenroe and to concentrate its resources on Fair City.
Fair City is a good copy of Coronation Street or Eastenders and would not be out of place in Manchester, London or Liverpool. Many Irish people still live outside of the greater Dublin area and Glenroe is far closer to their experience than Fair City. Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but does RTE really need to flatter British television? Lack of choice will drive us all into the arms of RTE's competitors - not a good long-term strategy for a national broadcaster. - Yours, etc.,
Bernadette Dillon, Hampton Park, Booterstown, Co Dublin.
