Madam, – Contrary to the suggestion by John McAuliffe, Conor O’Callaghan and Patrick Galvin (April 7th), Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council remains committed to supporting poetry and to the delivery of the annual DLR Poetry Now festival, notwithstanding a challenging funding environment.

DLR Poetry Now will continue to have its own curator and a distinct programme. In 2012 it will be delivered in association with the DLR Mountains to Sea Book festival – one of the country’s fastest- growing and most successful literary festivals. This should assist the council in delivering on its mission to expand the audience for poetry. – Yours, etc,

RICHARD SHAKESPEARE, Director of Environment, Culture Community Department, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Marine Road, Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin.
