The GAA and the pink ‘ladyball’

Sir, – The simpering justifications for introducing a pink ball for those “ladies” who play Gaelic football belies its bargain basement sexism.

If the ladies, dainty dears, need a “ladyball”, surely GAA gentlemen players need a “gentleball” for their delicate twinkle toes on the field. Baby blue, of course.

On the other hand, sports writers, reporters, journalists and the GAA could dispense with the sexist social construct “lady” and simply refer to females in sport as women. We could then dispense with the ditsy ideas that cheapen the achievements and performance of so many sportswomen. – Yours, etc,

PATRICIA MULKEEN,
