Sir, - I'm a participant on a four-weeks Joint European Police Studies Course at Garda Siochana College. With great interest I read the newspaper this morning and came across the headline "Unhappy coalition keeps scrapping amid fallout from policy reversals" on page 13.Although Denis Staunton reported very objectively about the situation in this 100-day-coalition I cannot agree with his first sentence: "... within Germany's ruling centre-right coalition ..."As a 45-year-old German I never knew that the Social Democratic Party and the "Greens" could be called "centre-right". If this is so, what did you call former Chancellor Helmut Kohl's coalition, whose policies were in the middle and the right? I think it was just a printing error and I would be very pleased if you could correct and clarify the matter. If the new government continues the way they have started and the Christian Democratic Union win the next election, you would then - continuing your position - describe them as an ultra-right wing party and these times are gone in Germany - 54 years ago. - Yours, etc.,Thomas Schelke,Garda College,Templemore,Co Tipperary.
