Madam, – So our green and fertile land produces the most expensive dairy produce in Europe (Home News, June 29th). But we limit the number and size of our retail outlets (to reduce competition and protect the corner shops of Ireland); we impose the most expensive waste disposal charges in Europe (to protect the environment and encourage our export trade in waste); we produce some of the most expensive electricity in Europe (don’t want that cheap nuclear energy); and we decide to have one of the highest minimum wages in Europe (because we deserve it!).
So why the surprise? We have some of the most expensive retail prices in Europe because that’s what we decided and until we “un-decide”, that’s the way those prices will stay. – Yours, etc,
