Sir, – The HSE is in deficit again ("Savings ordered as HSE faces ¤300 million deficit", September 8th). The annual cat-and-mouse game begins between the Ministers for Health and Finance on the one hand and the overspent HSE on the other. Somehow the money will be found after threats from the Ministers and promises of good behaviour from the HSE.
Is there no better way of managing the enormous expenditure of the health service? – Yours, etc,
