The Invisible Generation

Sir, - Everyone will be part of "the invisible generation" one day

Sir, - Everyone will be part of "the invisible generation" one day. It is in this light that I want to commend Kathy Sheridan on her articles in your editions of December 18th and 19th.

That the elderly have received such scant attention to date is unforgivable. From the perspective of somebody in their twenties it is clear that, unless one has been directly exposed to the plight of the elderly through helping a loved one, it is sadly not given much thought - until, perhaps, we find ourselves sitting in unfamiliar surroundings, bereft of much of our past identity.

Should these article not be compulsory reading for everybody? Perhaps then, those previously unaware of the issue might be spurred into action to - or at least might think twice before referring to the elderly as "past their sell-by date". - Yours, etc.,
