Madam, – Martin Carey’s anecdote about his experience at Dublin Airport Passport Control was amusing (June 22nd). Unfortunately, his light-hearted conclusion – “Altogether a very pleasant experience, as long as you know your hurling!” – is indicative of something rather more sinister.

Based on incidents I have witnessed first-hand, and some high profile cases well documented in the media, it might be more accurate to say “as long as you are Irish”. – Yours, etc,
