Sir, – I wholeheartedly agree with Tim Buckley (June 2nd) about the annual media hype surrounding the Leaving Certificate. It would be interesting if the media gave up the hype for a couple of years and allowed the students to sit their exams as part of ordinary life and recognised the competence of their teachers to give whatever advice is necessary. Sometimes I think the exaggerated attention every year might make the examinees and their parents feel it is obligatory to become a nervous wreck!
Let’s forget the drama and allow the students to accept the exams as a normal event. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – The English higher-level Leaving Certificate paper has a question about a speech by Bono. Can there be any further intellectual depths to plumb? – Yours, etc,
