A chara, – Tom Cooper (June 16th) bemoans that the Leaving Cert geography referenced a certain place in Northern Ireland by the name Londonderry.
There was a judicial review of the city’s official name in January 2007 where Mr Justice Weatherup decreed that the “London” prefix originally granted by a Royal charter in 1613 is still correct. As for claiming this place is in the “Irish State”, perhaps he should study some geography himself (and our Constitution) before criticising the Department of Education who in this case has got its facts correct. – Is mise,
