Sir, - Isn't it heartwarming to hear Gerry Adam's expression of sympathy for those civilians injured by the two bombs in Lisburn!

The bombs were designed to in jure or kill only soldiers, and it is unfortunate that civilians were involved. This was not meant to happen. There is obviously a serious design fault with the bombs and one can only assume that this will be corrected by the IRA before they set out the next time.

After years of planting bombs with tragic results for civilians, Catholic, Protestants and Dissenters, they were so confident on this occasion that they had got it right, they did not see the need any more to give ample warning of the explosion to come. When they correct the design fault, we can all relax knowing that we are not being singled out in future for injury or death. Only the armed forces would suffer. - Yours, etc.,
