Sir - When did John Bruton become prime minister of Northern Ireland? Is Dick Spring the MP for West Belfast? Why don't Southern politicians keep out of Northern Ireland's internal affairs?
They should solve the problems of the people of the Republic, who elected them to rule 26 counties, not 32. When the loyalist backlash comes South, as it did in 1974, the politicians of the South will have only themselves to blame. They should stop chasing the fantasy of Irish unity by consent and lending moral support to the IRA. There will never be unionist consent to a united Ireland.
The people of Northern Ireland and Britain can solve their own problems. Northern Ireland says YES to co operation, NO to coercion. How would you like UK politicians, including unionists, telling the Republic how to run itself? Yours, etc.,
