Madam, - If a picture tells a thousand words, the photograph on page 3 of Tuesday's edition, showing countless abandoned tents, sleeping bags and camping chairs, as well as other human detritus following last weekend's Oxegen festival, speaks volumes for the attitudes of today's Irish teenagers towards money, material possessions, hard work, the environment and their own self-respect.

Madam, - I was shocked to see the picture of the Oxegen campsite. Looking at the mess, it really was beyond me how anyone could call this event a success. Granted, the whole site may get cleaned up by a third-party contractor, but I think the picture just speaks volumes about Irish society today. How people could just leave that behind them is a disgrace and negates any positive aspects of the festival.
Just another testament to our times? — Yours, etc,
