The pen mightier than the keyboard

Sir, – Your article "Is the pen mightier than the keyboard" (March 31st) is correct that, for note-taking, it is questionable whether there is a benefit in using technology.

The article, in a microcosm, highlights the problem with education today which still focuses on the absorption and retention of information – and hence the need for note-taking.

In the 21st century, we need to produce students with 21st-century skills such as communication, collaboration and digital literacy.

This is where technology comes into its own. Not only can these much needed skills be imparted through technology, learning can be adapted and tailored to students’ individual needs with improvements measured.
