Madam, - It is clear from Donal McManus's article in your opinion page of February 23rd, "The need to address the imbalance in the housing system", that the plight of people like me seeking social housing has been increasingly overlooked by the Government. Constantly telling us that Ireland builds a record number of private housing for owners and investors is pointless for those seeking social housing. It certainly does nothing to show us that the Government has found a new caring attitude.

What is even more surprising is that no political party seems to be championing the need for more social housing. Private rented housing is no long-term solution. Relying on private landlords to house low-income families is a throwback to the 1990s. - Yours, etc.,
