Sir, - One cannot pass Kevin Myers and go to Sport. If he is not exactly required reading, one is at least required to see what he's on about. He's not always to my taste but very often he writes compellingly and courageously about some of his, sometimes unpopular, convictions. He panders to no one, he patronises no one.
His piece on Harry Potter is an excellent critique of a modern literary phenomenon. J.K. Rowling has written a book which appeals to all ages. However, there is a young lady in Howth named Grainne Linehan who is an enthusiastic fan and would not take kindly to the idea that Potter is for boys only. - Yours, etc.,
Kevin Healy, Hampstead Avenue, Glasnevin, Dublin 9.
