Madam, - Thank you for Frank McNally's Irishman's Diary, truly a breath of fresh air, a fascinating combination of humour and erudition with which to start the day. His excellent piece on St Anthony of Padua (June 13th) no doubt struck a nostalgic note for older Christians.
It also reminded me of an occasion when I was facilitator for an international convention of Catholic religious leaders in Rome. One day one of them, from Colombia, took a stroll after lunch and got lost in the city.
When he turned up, he told me: "We Latin Americans have a special prayer for situations like that. I prayed, 'San Antonio haz me aparecer - St Anthony, make me appear - and suddenly, there I was." - Yours, etc,
