Sir, - The contents of the letter from Ms Maire O Donabhain (October 1st) are both inaccurate and offensive.
At all times between 1993 and 1997, I gave every assistance possible to Adi Roche and the Chernobyl Children's Project. If Ms O Donobhain had checked the record with either Adi or myself, she would have discovered this, and most likely not arrived at a conclusion which is based on ignorance of the facts.
It is also worth pointing out that the programmes for both governments in which the Labour Party participated between 1993 and 1997 contained a commitment that no change would take place in our neutrality status without a referendum. That commitment was drafted and negotiated by the Labour Party and inserted at the insistence of the party in both of those programmes. - Yours, etc,
